Sans and Papyrus's respective issues can clash badly at time. It's even harder because they both don't remember where those issues even came from and really have no idea how to deal with them. They're just kind of fumbling blindly.
So many echoes from things that don't exist anymore! Papyrus's is more positive, and Sans's have a pretty. distinct theme going on. I also wanted to reference this scene but couldn't quite find a way to fit it in anywhere. So just keep it in mind I guess, haha.
You can sort of consider this as the darker flipside to Sans's inner thoughts about scarves. Same thing, just in a different light. Similarly Papyrus's thoughts showed up when he first learned about making friends.
Oh yeah! Sans wasn't smoking the cigarettes, he was just crumbling them up with his fingers cause the smell makes him feel bad.
