[SPOILERS] It's stuck to my head
Speculating about the effect a Gaster who chose mercy would have on the various endings of the game is an interesting exercise. There are so many factors to consider! So many ways things could pan out! There’s the murder run and pacifist run of course, but I’ve found myself thinking more about neutral runs lately.
Let’s assume that Gaster is a part of the plot and there is a battle with him, in which you can kill or spare him (exactly how, I dunno). There’s a whole host of different possibilities to consider…
If you leave only Gaster alive, then he would become king with great reluctance. He’d be absolutely miserable about it, and he’d vow that any humans that fell from that point on would be given to him for experimentation. He’s never wanted this kind of power or responsibility, so it’s possible he may just withdraw into himself and mostly leave everyone to their own devices… or it’s possible he may find an inner reserve of strength and step up as an actual leader… or he might succumb to grief and regret and self-blame and “disappear”.
With Gaster as another spoke in Alphys’s wheel of general support, it’s hard to say what would be enough for Alphys to “disappear” or for her to stay alive. Losing Undyne and Mettaton I think would be too much for her… possibly two out of three would be her limit? Three would definitely be too much. With one lost, she might hang on… it’s hard to say. She may join Gaster when he becomes King and the two of them can sort of unofficially co-rule as mad scientists…
If Papyrus dies, regardless of who else survives, Sans and Gaster’s relationship completely falls apart and they stop talking to each other. If only Papyrus and Gaster are left alive, he might be a stabilizing influence on King Gaster, or might take on the role of king himself since Gaster wouldn’t want it.
One of the biggest questions is Toriel. If she dies, Gaster never knows she was alive in the first place… but if she lives and comes out of the Ruins, I wonder how he’d react? It’d be a really complex jumble of emotions… he’d lose one of the goatparents and gain another that he thought was dead. It might send him into an existential crisis about why he did any of what he did. If Papyrus is dead and Toriel is still alive, then I figure that’d make it extremely hard for him to accept her wanting to show future humans kindness… humans would have killed his family TWICE at that point. If Undyne otherthrows Toriel, he might go into the Ruins with her… or maybe he’d push her away in an attempt to torture himself with all the self-loathing and guilt her appearance would raise in him.
Papyrus would take it pretty hard if Gaster died, but he’d be understanding and forgive you for doing what you had to. Sans would have a lot of conflicting emotions about it that he’d find difficult to articulate, if he did at all.
If Toriel survived but Gaster died, I can picture her feeling a lot of regret over never talking to him again after she left, and all the things between them that got left unsaid.
There’s just so much stuff to consider! So many possibilities…
设定一下选择仁慈的Gaster在游戏的不同结局会怎么样是件很有意思的事。要考虑那么多事情！有可能有那么多结果！当然有pe和ge，但我发现我最近经常考虑的是ne的事情。
我们假设Gaster是剧情的一部分，而且和他也有剧情战，你可以杀了他或宽恕他（具体怎样，我不知道）。有一大堆不同的可能性要考虑……
·如果你只让Gaster活下来，那他可能极不情愿地成为国王。他显然会非常痛苦，会起誓从那时起所有掉下来的人类都要交给他做实验。他从没想要这种力量或是责任，所以他可能不会管理，大部分都让其他人自己想办法……或者他可能发现自己内心的力量，然后成为一个真正的领导者……或者他会屈服于自身的内疚和后悔，自我责备然后“消失”。
·从另一方面说，有Gaster作为Alphys的精神支柱，很难说到什么程度Alphys会“消失”或是继续活下来。失去Undyne和Mettaton我觉得对她来说太过了……也许三个中的两个会是她的极限？三个很明显就太过了。失去一个朋友，她也许还能坚持……很难说。她也许会在Gaster成为国王时加入他，他们两个也许会作为疯狂科学家进行非正式地共治……
·如果Papyrus死了，不管其他谁活了下来，Sans和Gaster的关系都会完全破裂，他们会停止和对方讲话。如果只有Papyrus和Gaster两个人活了下来，Papyrus可能会让Gaster稳定一点，或者有可能自己当国王，因为Gaster根本就不想当。
·最大的问题是Toriel。如果她死了，Gaster从一开始就不会知道她还活着……但如果她活着并且走出了遗迹，那么他会如何反应呢？应该会有很复杂混乱的情绪吧……他刚失去了一位羊家成员又得到了一位他以为早就死了的羊家成员。这也许会让他陷入“我做了这些都是为了啥啊”的存在性危机中。如果Papyrus死了而Toriel还活着，那我觉得Toriel展示给他的人类的善良他会无法接受……在这点上，人类【两次】杀死了他的家人。如果Undyne驱逐了Toriel，那么他有可能和她一起到遗迹去……或者他也有可能把她推开，用她的出现让他想起来的东西来激起他自己的内疚和自我厌恶，来折磨自己。
·如果Gaster死了，Papyrus会受到很大打击，但他会理解你，原谅你做了那些你必须做的事情。Sans可能会有很多相互冲突的感情，他很难明确地表达出来，如果他想要表达的话。
·如果Toriel活着但Gaster死了，她绝对会因为在她离开以后没有再和他说过一句话而感到无比的后悔，为他们间那些没有说出口的话感到后悔。
要考虑那么多事情！那么多的可能性……
